But for a little rain when it was time to load the buses Wednesday afternoon, students in Andalusia City Schools had a great first day of the 2016-17 school year on Wednesday, Superintendent Ted Watson said.

“If the start of this day at the elementary school is any indicator, we’re going to have our best year ever,” Watson said late Wednesday. “It went really smoothly. The rain this afternoon caused our buses to be slow, and we had a few issues we need to work out. But we don’t have to practice for rain days now.”

Watson said the high school also had a good first day of school.

“We won’t have an idea about enrollment until we’ve had a couple of weeks to get a steady head count,” he said. “But so far, everything looks good.”
