The last of the county’s three school systems will return to school on Monday, and Covington County Superintendent Shannon Driver remains optimistic that everything is in order for the new school year.

“Everything is in order,” he said. “We are finishing our final summer projects today (Friday).”

Driver said those who ride buses should be aware that the routes will run as usual – assuming the weather cooperates.

Over the summer, Driver said they have worked to repaint and do some upgrades throughout the system.

“The weather has held us up on some outdoor projects,” he said.

Driver said that parents dropping and picking up children next week should be patient with the long lines.

“It is generally slower,” he said. “It usually takes a week or week-and-a-half to get things going. Just be patient.”

Driver reported a good week of inservice and training.

All-American football player Jeremiah Castille spoke to teachers this past week.

“He was so good,” Driver said. “I had heard some people talk about how good he was. He brought energy and passion and set the tone for our school year.”
