Runoff in Florala for mayor, 1 council seat

Florala voters have more work to do, and will have to return to the polls on Oct. 4 to select a mayor and one council member.

Current Councilman Marvin Williford received 170 votes in the mayor’s race, followed by for county school superintendent Terry Holley with 155, and Justin Jackson with 74. Williford and Holley will meet in a runoff.

A runoff also is slated in the District 1 council seat, where only 57 people voted. Sylvia Ann Wallace-Patton received 25 votes, and will face Chuck Willis in the runoff. Willis received 23 votes, and Odessa Vaughn received 9.

In District 2, Gayle Robbins defeated Mike Cheshire, 49 to 34. Both are political newcomers.

In District 5, Sue Mathis, a former council member, defeated Evan Robbins, 53 to 34.

In District 3, incumbent Deborah Inabinett was unopposed. Likewise, Jeff Burleson was unopposed in District 4.
