Andalusia Health now offers inpatient acute hemodialysis services to patients in Covington County and neighboring communities. This new service is being offered in partnership with Renalus Center for Kidney Care and Fresenius Medical Care.

“Our goal is to deliver high-quality healthcare close to home for the people in our communities,” said John Yanes, CEO of Andalusia Health. “In fulfilling our mission, we are continuously evaluating opportunities to enhance care. We are so pleased to partner with Renalus and Fresenius to improve access and convenience for patients in our community needing this vital service.”

The hospital’s state-of-the-art suite will contain two dialysis beds for hospital patients needing acute hemodialysis services, with all services provided by dialysis registered nurses. Once a patient is admitted to the hospital, Andalusia Health is able to dialyze patients who regularly receive dialysis regardless of which outpatient dialysis provider they use. In some cases, it will also allow patients with acute renal failure the opportunity to receive treatment at Andalusia, eliminating the need to travel to another facility.

Dr. Duncan Scott, a nephrologist with Renalus Center for Kidney Care in Andalusia, will serve as the Inpatient Dialysis Medical Director and has been instrumental in bringing this service to Andalusia Health.

“With the addition of inpatient dialysis, patients will be able to receive more comprehensive care through their local primary care physician and the local specialists on staff at Andalusia Health resulting in less fragmented healthcare delivery system,” said Dr. Scott. “Renalus is pleased to partner with Andalusia Health and Fresenius to bring this much needed service to Covington County.”

Angie Barnes, senior director of inpatient services at Andalusia Health, will work with Dr. Scott and the team at Fresenius to ensure that the dialysis patients receive the best possible care. “We are excited to provide this service to those in our community needing inpatient services. This is just one of the ways we are striving to make Andalusia Health a place where people choose to come for healthcare,” she said.
