Hurricane watch, storm warning extended

Tropical Storm Hermine formed Wednesday and was strengthening on its way to a landfall today on Florida’s Gulf Coast.

212352A small portion of southeast Alabama and more of the Florida Panhandle could also be impacted.

The National Hurricane Center extended the hurricane watch and tropical storm warning west to Destin, after its forecast track moved slightly to the west.

Geneva, Henry and Houston counties in were added to the tropical storm warning. Geneva county is Covington County’s easterly neighbor.

At press time, Hermine was located some 330 miles south west of Apalachicola and winds were at 50 mph.
