Mrs. Gertrud Duerr

Mrs. Gertrud Duerr, 94, of Gantt, passed away Sun., Aug. 28, 2016, at her residence.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Tues., Sept. 5, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with a reception following at Christ the King Catholic Church in Andalusia. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Foreman Funeral Home.

She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Maria and John Anderson of Gantt, and Christine Duerr of Philadelphia, Pa.; a son, Wolfgang Duerr of Gantt; three grandchildren, Maisa Duerr of Philadelphia, Juliet and Douglas Stewart of Jay, Fla., and Ali Riley of Pensacola; two step-grandchildren, Christopher and Debbie Anderson; three step great-grandchildren, Amber, Adam, and Jacqueline; three step great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lydia Vuotto and Ann McKelvey of Philadelphia, Pa.

Earnestine Rushing Legg

Mrs. Earnestine Rushing Legg, 84, of Andalusia, passed away Wed., Aug. 31, 2016, at Opp Health and Rehab.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sat., Sept. 3, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with Elbert Smith and Dewayne Seay officiating the service. Interment will follow in Weed Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30-8 p.m. Fri., Sept. 2, at Foreman Funeral Home.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Shelia and Chuck Faulkner of Andalusia; son, Bobby Earl Edgar of Andalusia; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Benny and Frances Rushing of Opp; and sisters, Madeline Geffre of Lindsey, Okla.,, Violet Branch of Birmingham, and Louemma Creech of Elba.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Victor Joe Legg; grandson, Wendall Williams; brother, Jerry Rushing; and brothers-in-law, Andy Geffre, Lester Branch, and Roy Creech.

Loyette Day Sansom

Mrs. Loyette Day Sansom, age 79, of 936 County Road 479, Opp, died Fri., Sept. 2, 2016, at a local hospital.

A funeral service for Mrs. Sansom will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Sun., Sept. 4, at Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ben Posey officiating. Interment will follow at Kinston City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday beginning at 2:30 p.m.

The family will also be receiving friends at the home of Scott & Denise Sansom, 936 County Road 479 Opp, AL 36467.

Mrs. Sansom is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Scott ( Denise) Sansom; Grandson, Alex Sansom; sister and Brother-in-law, Thelma (Ray) Jones; sister-in-law, Grace Day; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John (Buddy) Sansom; parents, Elmer and Maggie Day; brothers, Oscar Day and Ralph Day.

Elizabeth Ann Barnes

Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Barnes, 77, of Andalusia, passed away Thurs., Sept. 01, 2016, at Andalusia Regional Hospital.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Sat., Sept. 03, 2016, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. prior to services at the funeral home.

She is survived by her husband, William H. “Billy” Barnes of Andalusia; sons and daughters-in-law, William Dale and Lauri Barnes of Niceville, Fla., and Robert Wayne and Judith Barnes of Ft. Worth, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Diane and Don Dixon of Alabaster, Ala.; and grandchildren, Amy Barnes, Andrew Barnes, Mary Elizabeth Barnes, Will Barnes, and Zachary Barnes.

Rev. Rex Godwin

The Rev. Rex Godwin, age 89, of Troy, formerly of Covington County, passed away Wed., Aug. 31, 2016, at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Mon., Sept. 5, 2016, at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Brundidge. The Rev. Jason Hughes will officiate. The graveside will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the Rawls Baptist Church cemetery in Andalusia with Keahey Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.

Survivors include his loving wife of 69 years, Frances Godwin of Troy; daughters, June (Kenny) Connell of Swan Lake, Mont., and Debby Carpenter of Troy; grandchildren, Brandy (Andy) Guy, Dave (Amanda) Carpenter, and Debbie (Dave) Woest; great-grandchildren, Seve Guy, David and Eli Carpenter, and Miles and Max Woest; and sisters-in-law, Laura Godwin of Andalusia and Ouida Rawls of Montgomery.

Mr. Godwin was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters, and son-in-law, David Carpenter.

He has served as pastor of Rawls Baptist Church, Gantt; Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Brundidge; Friendship Baptist Church, Tallassee;

New Prospect Baptist Church, Samson; and Oakdale Baptist Church of Ramer.

 

Marilyn Nall Blair

Marilyn Nall Blair, resident of Hope Hull, Ala., passed away in the loving arms of her family in her home on Aug. 31, 2016, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

Services will be held at Mountain Hill Baptist Church, Bethlehem Community. Sellers, Ala., at 11 a.m. on Sat., Sept. 3. Visitation will be 10-11 with her lying in state at that time. Burial and graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. from Mount Carmel Cemetery on County Rd 51, off highway 31/55’ south, near Red Level, Ala.

She was preceded in death by her parents, D.C.Nall and Annie Lee Gammage Nall; her sister, Annie Jo Nall Harrell; grandson, Stephen Blair Cooper; and her stepmother, Ida Merrill Nall.

Marilyn is survived by her brother, Claude Nall (Erva Ree), sister, Bobbie Roland; brother-in-law, Meredith Harrell; her children, Anne Blair Evans (Wayne, deceased) of Columbus, Ga., Kathryn Blair Morrison (Melvin) of Ft, Payne, Ala., and Sue Blair Huneycutt (John) of Hope Hull, Ala.; six grandchildren, Lee Hatcher of Dallas, Texas, Patti Kennedy of Columbus, Ga., Jason Cooper of Shorterville, Ala., Joe Ciniglio of Odenville, Ala., and Jennifer Cole of Hope Hull, Ala., 13 great-grandchildren, one great-grand child and several nieces and nephews.

Marilyn was a devout Christian and a very active member of Mountain Hill Baptist Church and the adult Sunday school class. She was well known for her patriotism. Her prayers for our soldiers were heard every day by her family and church friends. She was a participant in the “Wounded Warriors lap blanket “project. She hand-pieced many quilts and sent them to the injured soldiers with her hand written letter of love and appreciation for their services to our country.

She was a regular supporter of several charity organizations such as the Alabama Children’s Home, Ronald McDonald House and others.

Our family would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Hospice of Montgomery for their tender care of our mother and to our family. And to her church family for their constant visits and loving prayers
