Sanford Mayor Chris Thomasson said things are going well in his little town.

An $85,000 street paving project is set to begin in about two weeks.

“We were able to apply for a CDBG grant to pave Loop Road,” he said. “It is going to start within the next two weeks.”

Thomasson said they are also adding fire hydrants to the system to help improve the ISO rating.

“We are adding two per year,” he said.

The biggest thing on the plate is selling a lot near the convenience store in Sanford.

“We bought the lot hoping to attract some retail to Sanford,” he said.

He said they have talked to some local people.

“I’m still holding out for a Dollar General or a restaurant,” he said. “We have 1,200 people coming out to work in Sanford every day and there isn’t a restaurant.”

The traffic count on U.S. 84 in Sanford is 9,500.

“We would love to have fast food,” he said.

The lot is 2.9 acres with 500 feet of road side frontage on Hwy. 84 and 150 feet of road side frontage on Cliff Meredith Road.

“There is already a turning lane, too,” he said.
