A group of churches is planning a special service this Sun., Sept. 11, on the Court Square.

Terri Davis said the local churches of Project Psalm 133 have two goals with the Shut The Doors Sunday service.

0906-project-psalm133-logo“One, we thought it would be great if we could come together right in the heart of Andalusia and worship, and bring Christ to the heart of the city,” she said. “That was one goal. Since it was 911, and it was the 15-year anniversary – in the culture we have nowadays it has become commonplace to be against the police officers. We decided to honor them and other first responders.

“So we are coming together for those two purposes,” Davis said.

Larry Carter, chaplain of the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Department, will be the guest speaker. Carter recently receive the International Conference of Police Chaplains’ John A. Price Excellence in Chaplaincy Award for 2016.

Project Psalm 133 is a group that promotes unity among churches and Christians.

“My husband and I formed it to unite the churches,” Davis said. “We have five churches involved. We meet, get together, and work together to bring Christ to the community. We think we can do more together.”

About 18 months ago, the couple mailed letters to area churches explaining their interest in bringing church groups together.

“We really wanted to go past the denominational and race barriers,” she said.

To date, Beda Baptist Church, Crossway Ministries, Greentree Christian Fellowship, the Church of the Living God, and Mt. Gilead Baptist Church are participating.

“We have Pentecostals and Baptists and blacks and whites,” Davis said. “This is really what we were going for.”

In addition to Carter, Sunday’s outdoor service will include a drama produced by Crossway Ministries’ youth and a multi-church choirs.

“We are very excited about this,” Davis said. “We’ll have water there, but we encourage everyone to dress for the weather and bring lawn chairs.”
