While other areas of the state are experiencing drought-like conditions, rainfall totals recording by the Choctawhatchee, Pea and Yellow Rivers Watershed Management Authority show more rain has fallen in Covington County this year than last.

Year-to-date, the Choc-Pea has recorded 42.08 inches of rain at Yellow river on Hwy. 55, compared to 33.55 inches in the same period last year. The flood warning system recorded 3.88 inches of rain in August.

The Choc-Pea has recorded 42.38 inches of rain at its monitoring spot on the Yellow River at Hwy. 84. Comparison data is misleading, as monitoring only began there in February of 2015, but only 31.69 inches of rain were recorded there from February to August of 2015.

The average rainfall recorded in all of the Choc-Pea’s monitoring system is 38.70 inches in 2016, compared to 33.68 inches in 2015.
