FBC children’s choir under way

Local children are having the opportunity to “be strong in the Lord” through the First Baptist Church of Andalusia’s graded children’s choirs.
FBC Music Minister Dwight Crigger said Thursday that the choirs are offered for ages 4 years old through sixth grade.
So far, there are about 40 children signed up for the once-a-week choir session, but Crigger said there is room for more children.
“This year’s theme is Be Strong in the Lord,” he said. “That’s one of the songs we are singing this semester.”
Crigger said the songs have been carefully written to ensure they are developmentally appropriate for the children, both theologically and musically.”
The songs help children develop natural singing skills, increase their musical knowledge and grow spiritually, he said.
Crigger said children from throughout the county are eligible to participate in the choir. FBC sends a bus to Andalusia Elementary School to pick up children there.
“We don’t send a bus to the county schools, but they are welcome to attend,” he said. “We have had children from Straughn participate before.”
And this year, someone graciously donated money to pay for the fees for the program.
“There is no financial obligation this year,” he said. “We are actually going to sing on the Sunday morning of Oct. 16. We will sing again Nov. 27 at night. Our spring concert will be in April, but we haven’t set that date yet.”
