This year’s OppFest will feature a carnival in addition the usual street festival.

Downtown Redevelopment Authority Chairman Pam Potter said that entertainment hasn’t been finalized, but eventgoers can expect the same format as usual.

Right now, Potter said, there is a huge need for vendors.

“They are coming in, but we still have plenty of spots,” she said. “We had over 40 last year, but we would love to have more than that this year.”

Vendors line Main Street and Covington Avenue during the event.

Vendor fees are $25 for arts and crafts and clothing and food vendors are $75 and $10 for electricity.

There will also be a carshow.

The event is set for Oct. 28 and 29.

But the carnival will come to town a few days early.

“We have the carnival again this year,” she said. “It will come in on the 26th and go through the 29th.”

On Saturday evening, there will be trick or treating downtown.

“Vendors will have candy downtown,” she said. “It will begin at 5 p.m. and last until 7.”

In addition, the Opp Rotary Club will hold its annual Scarecrow 5K run.

Registration is at 7 a.m., at First Baptist Church Fellowship Center and race begins at 8:30 p.m.

Cost is $30.

There will also be a kids fun run at 9:30 a.m.
