Opp, Straughn win best of class awards
Opp High School picked up three best-in-class awards, and Straughn earned one in the A-Town Invitational marching band contest here Saturday.
Opp’s drum major, majorettes, and color guard each earned best in class in Class 2A. Straughn picked up a best in class for majorettes in Class 3A.
Twenty-nine bands competed in the 11th annual competition, and Andalusia’s Sound Tradition performed in exhibition.
Best in class drum majors included – Cottonwood (1A); Opp (2A); Elba (3A); Calera (4A); and Gulf Shores (5A).
Best in class majorettes included – Excel (1A); Opp (2A); Straughn (3A); Rehobeth (4A); and Daleville (5A).
Best in class color guard included – Sweetwater (1A); Opp (2A); Charles Henderson (3A); Calera (4A); and Gulf Shores (5A).
Best in class dance line included – Jackson (1A); Zion Chapel (2A); Elba (3A); and Calera (4A).
Best in class percussion included – Escambia County (Atmore) (1A); Southern Choctaw (2A); Elba (3A); Rehobeth (4A); and Northview (5A).
Best in class band included – Sweetwater (1A); Southern Choctaw (2A); Ashford (3A); Calera (4A); and Northview (5A).
Calera captured the sweepstakes award.
