Get ready for The Fair!

It’s almost fair week, and the Andalusia Kiwanis Club has lots of entertainment in store at the Kiwanis Covington County Fair.

1013-fair-ferris-wheel-and-crowdRegistration and set up of exhibits began Friday and continues through Sunday. All should be ready by Monday morning when the booths and exhibits will be judged,

Monday is a school holiday locally, so youngsters should be ready to start the fun when the ribbon is cut at 1:30 p.m, and the midway opens at 2 p.m.

From 2 p.m. until 6 p.m., admission is $2, and arm bands for unlimited rides are $15. Standard admission after 6 p.m., and unlimited rides will be $20.

Entertainment will include a reptile and amphibians show at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., with Tiny Miss, Little Miss and Miss Pre-Teen pageants beginning at 6:30 p.m.

 

Special time for special needs

Andalusia Health is sponsoring special needs mornings at the fair. The midway will be open from 10 a.m. until noon, and a sack lunch will be provided.

The fair will open to school-aged persons with special needs on Tuesday, and for adults on Thursday morning.

 

Talent Search

Children’s Search for Talent (K-6th grades) and Youth Search for Talent (7th-12th grades) is set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, and the Adult Search for Talent Contest is set at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Those interested in entering will find entry forms at http://www.kiwanisccf.org.

 

Military Appreciation

The Kiwanis Club will give a shout out to those who serve on Wednesday night, which is Military Appreciation night. Active and reserve military receive free admission with valid I.D. Standard admission price everyone else, unlimited rides $20.

 

Family night

On Thursday night, admission is reduced to $5, and unlimited rides are $15, as part of Family Night at the Fair.

Entertainment will include the Andalusia High School Chorus, the 4=H Rabbit and Chicken Show, and the Whatley First Baptist Church Male Chorus.

 

Weekend fun

Football won’t be the only Friday night lights in town. The fair will be open from 5:30 until 10 p.m, with unlimited rides until midnight. The LBWCC Ensemble will provide entertainment.

Saturday includes a full slate of events.

At noon, the 4-H/FFA Invitation Heifer Show is planned. The fair opens at 2:30 p.m., and the 2nd Annual Cake Decorating Contest begins at 3:30. For more information, visit kiwanisccf.org, or call Debbie Marcum at 334.488.3848.

The Straughn High School String Band will perform at 6:30 p.m., and the midway closes at midnight. Standard admission, and unlimited rides are $20.

On Sun., Oct. 16, the fair is open on the midway only from 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Unlimited rides are $20.
