The Straughn Tigers earned a huge 41-0 homecoming victory over Class 3A, Region 2 foe Houston Academy Friday night at Tiger Stadium in Straughn.

“We played well and really came out strong,” Straughn head coach Chris Wilson said. “We really just scored at will the first few series of the game.”

Straughn did come out scoring early and often in the game and held a 34-0 lead heading into halftime.

The game was so out of hand, that the officials implemented a running clock in the second half to speed up the process.

The Tigers rushed for more than 200 yards and passed for nearly 150 yards.

“Getting our starting quarterback back really helped us out,” Wilson said. “This week we stressed consistency and I really thought we did a good job with that on both sides of the ball.”

Corey Matrullo, Matt Worley and Jacob Hawkins each had one rushing touchdown.

Keaun Samuel, Caleb Evers and Matrullo each caught one touchdown pass from Brock Hammett.

“We did a good job of starting strong,” Wilson said. “Our defense made some big stops and got their offense off the field quickly.”
