The No. 2-ranked Andalusia Bulldogs (7-1) have won four straight games as they head to East Brewton on Friday to take on W.S. Neal (2-5) for the final Class 4A, Region 1 regular-season contest for the Bulldogs.

“They (W.S. Neal) have dealt with a lot of injuries this year,” Andalusia head coach Trent Taylor said. “It’s heartbreaking for those kids that are dealing with season-ending injuries.”

The Bulldogs and the Eagles haven’t faced on the gridiron since Andalusia beat W.S. Neal 44-13 in 2009.

Andalusia leads the series 9-6.

“They are still very big up front on both sides of the ball,” Taylor said. “When you close your eyes and picture a typical W.S. Neal team, they fit that mold. They are well coached and they are still playing very hard.”

This year the Bulldogs have been led in large part by their stout defense.

On the year, the Bulldogs have only allowed 73 points, and have pitched two shutouts.

Andalusia’s defense has picked up 31 sacks, 12 interceptions and 11 recovered fumbles through eight games.

William Lindsey is the team’s sack leader with five.

Felix Johnson, Will Clark and Antonio Gurley each have three sacks for the Bulldogs.

Allan George leads the Bulldogs with six interceptions.

“I want to see us play with a lot of intensity,” Taylor said. “Heading into the playoffs, the teams that hang around the longest are the teams that can get to a certain level of intensity each week.”

Kickoff between the Bulldogs and the Eagles will be Friday at 7 p.m., at W.S. Neal’s Buddy Taylor Field in East Brewton.
