The 21st Century Community Learning Center at Straughn Elementary School and Straughn Middle School has partnered with the Andalusia Animal Shelter to provide supplies needed to help the animals in Covington County.

“Some saw something about it a news article and they asked us if it would be something we were interested in doing the project,” Site director Joyce Mitchell said. “We thought is was a great idea so we contacted Kayla Cleland at the Andalusia Animal Shelter. She actually has three children in our program, so she was excited to partner with us.”

The “Partnering for Paws” program is a service-learning project that will benefit the shelter animals by providing needed supplies and materials.

“I think it’s important for us do this so the animals can have a longer life,” SES student Ora Hall said. “We should give back to animals the same way we give back to people.”

SES student Paris Centner also felt that the “Partnering for Paws” program was important.

“If someone doesn’t provide them food, then they won’t live long,” Centner said. “We need to give back to the animals because you never know which ones might become service animals for somebody.”
