It’s that time of year again. Time for the Covington County Child Advocacy Center’s fall box lunch delivery.

Kaci Perry, director of the center, said all money raised will go to fund counseling and forensic interviews at the child advocacy center.

“I know we have the grant, but not all of our services and needs are covered by the grant,” she said. “The extra money allows us to have what we need to keep our doors open for the kids of Covington County.”

The CAC opened in the spring of 2015 on the Andalusia Health campus.

“We’ve had a lot of utilization,” Perry said.

In 2014, there were some 275 reports of child abuse investigated in Covington County.

For years, the county partnered with the Butler County for child advocacy services.

The center allows for interviews to be conducted in a centralized place.

As part of the interview process, children are asked questions about the alleged incident.

An added bonus is that the interviewer and the child are in a special room set up with children’s décor to make the child more comfortable, while other members of the investigative team watch unseen from a conference room.

This allows the child not to rehash the incident repetitively.

The process allowed local investigations to cut down on the amount of time needed make a case.

Perry said the fundraiser is also one of the ways the center gets its message out.

“A lot of people still don’t know we are here,” she said.

The box lunch will be ready on Nov. 30

Pick-up will be at Southside Baptist Church or delivery will be available from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Cost is $10 per box and donations are also welcome.

The box includes Chicken Shack chicken salad, fresh fruit bowl, pickles, fresh baked yeast roll, dessert, a bag of chips and a surprise.

Deadline to order is Nov. 18.

To place your order, email covctychildadvocacy@gmail.com or fax 334-222-1995.

“Our goal is to see a thousand of these,” she said.
