For the second time in less than a week, a person has died in a crash at the same intersection in Red Level.

Around 10:23 p.m. Thursday, a two-vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of Hwy. 55 and Covington County 82, also known as the Gantt-Red Level Road.

Red Level Police Chief Howard West said that Hwy. 55 was closed until about 3 a.m., Friday.

According to the accident report, Diana J. Boshers, 60, of Hampshire, Tenn., was driving a 2006 Dodge when her was struck by a 2013 Chevrolet driven by Paul Thomas Swinson, 57, of McKenzie.

Law enforcement officials say Boshers was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Fla., where she died shortly after arrival.

A passenger in Boshers’ car was taken to a local hospital, and Swinson was taken to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery for his injuries.

The Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate the incident.
On Sunday afternoon, another accident occurred at the same intersection and claimed the life of an Inez Castleberry of Red Level.

Police Chief Howard West said that the incident occurred in the southbound lanes of Hwy. 55 at the caution light in the Red Level town limit.

On Friday, there was chatter on social media about the intersection being dangerous.

West confirmed the intersection – as is any intersection – is dangerous, and advised those who were traveling to use caution and be attentive.
