The Class 3A No. 4-ranked Opp Bobcats dropped the hammer on the Class 2A No. 3-ranked Elba Tigers with a 43-24 victory Thursday night at Channell-Lee Stadium in Opp.

Elba got the first score of the game, but once the Bobcats got rolling they never checked up.

Orlando Lacey connected with a wide-open Tye Lindsey for a 64-yard touchdown to get the Bobcats on the board.

As the game was creeping toward halftime, Opp’s Allan Morrow picked up a pass from Elba’s quarterback and returned it to the Tigers’ 13-yard line with a minute left before haltime.

Lacey capped off the drive with a 3-yard score with 40 seconds left in the first half.

Opp wasted no time scoring to start the second half as Lindsey took the opening kickoff 79 yards to the end zone.

After Elba scored on long drive, the Bobcats went right back to work.

Wasting little time once again, Hennis Washington took a handoff on the first play of the drive and sprinted 76 yards for the touchdown. The two-point conversion gave Opp a 30-16 lead with 7:10 left in the third quarter.

Lindsey added another score on the next drive on a 2-yard run.

The final Opp touchdown came on a 66-yard run from Washington. Washington finished the game with 241 yards rushing.

“Hennis is a quiet and humble kid that gets overlooked by a lot of people,” Opp’s head coach Brent Hill said. “He did a great job, but that doesn’t happen without the blocking up front. We are looking to build on these past two weeks as we head into the playoffs. I feel like right now, we are really starting to play with a three aspects working. This is the time of year that you really need everything working. I was very proud of the way we responded tonight. We came out and we able to make some big plays on both sides of the ball.”
