SHS robotics participates in competition

The Presentation Marketing team consists of David Dillard, Grant Porter, Samuel Driver, Sterlin Jennings, Avery Bates and Elizabeth Porter. Straughn High School’s robotics team won fifth in robot competition, third in exhibit and 3rd in spirit in the Wiregrass BEST robotics competition on Saturday. Sixteen teams competed, including Admiral Moorer Middle School, Ashford High School, Carroll High School, Coppinville Junior High, Cottonwood High School, Early County High School, Eufaula High School,
Houston Academy, Houston County High School, Macon County Public Schools, Pike Liberal Arts, Providence Christian School, Rehobeth Middle School, Ridgecrest Christian Home School and Wicksburg High School. Also on the team were Avery Bates, Trenton Cleland, Ryan Miller, Ryan Mitchell, Abigail Thomas and Wyatt Thomas. The team worked on their project for 40 days. The robot is constructed out of pieces that include PVC pipe for the robot’s frame. Wood was used for the side and top of the frame. Wicksburg High School won the best award; Cottonwood took home first in the robotics finals. Wicksburg, Cottonwood, Ridgecrest Christian High School earned their spots in the South’s BEST robotics competition.
