It’s a great week to be an Andalusia Bulldog.

The team is ranked No. 1 headed into the first round of the playoffs, and the marching band finally got their new uniforms Wednesday.

“Coach (Trent) Taylor told me he predicted we would wear them five games this season,” AHS band director Bennie Shellhouse laughed.

Shellhouse said the uniforms arrived around 1 p.m. on Wednesday and band students were busy unloading them, sorting them and putting up hats.

“We ordered 175 uniforms,” he said.

Shellhouse said they were initially expecting the uniforms around Aug. 20.

“They just got behind on production,” he said. “On Aug. 1, they told us we had a window and they would arrive in two to four weeks.”

Shellhouse said the uniforms’ arrival kept getting pushed back. Band members are excited to wear their uniforms at home the first game of state playoffs.

“We are fortunate to have a home playoff game so our fans get to see us wear them at home first,” he said.

There are 30 seniors this year, he said.

“They are super excited,” he said. “We waited to take the senior picture and the band group picture – really everything until we got them in.”

It was announced in April that the band would receive new uniforms.

The uniforms were purchased as a direct result of the education sales tax money generated from the city.

Shellhouse said the school should get eight years of wear from the uniforms, which feature the school’s recently adopted “A” logo.
