After more than a week of investigation into a Halloween shooting, Opp Police have arrested the victim.
On Halloween night, OPD received a call from a woman who said she had been shot outside her residence on South College Street.
Opp Police Chief Mike McDonald said that C-Shift officers responded to the area and located a 21-year-old female who had been shot with a small caliber hand gun in the bicep area of her left arm.
The victim’s description only said that the alleged perpetrator was wearing all black and shot her in her yard.
She also advised police the shooter fled in a small four-door vehicle heading north.
McDonald said the victim was taken to Mizell Memorial Hospital by ambulance and had non-life threatening injuries.
“OPD investigators initiated an investigation involving individuals in both Opp as well as, with the assistance of the Elba Police Department, individuals in Elba,” McDonald said.
As a result of the investigation, OPD A-Shift officers arrested Yatchauntaneeya Lakierra Chaundrel Henderson of Opp and charged her with making a false report to law enforcement after the investigation determined her gunshot wound was self inflicted. Investigators recovered the firearm that was utilized in the crime, McDonald said.
