Andalusia fans who showed up hungry for the Bulldogs’ game against Leeds Friday night found a treat in the parking lot.

Three alumni who now live in Huntsville decided to tailgate in Leeds and feed their friends.

“We tailgate every Alabama A&M home game and for the Magic City Classic,” Ron Rawls, Class of ’76, said.

His tailgate group includes his brother, Rex Rawls, and General Lee Bradshaw.

“A&M’s last home game was the week of the first playoff game,” Rawls said. “That Saturday, we were talking about that Andalusia had won the first round, and we said, ‘Let’s go show our appreciation to the fans for traveling, and to the Bulldogs for winning.’ ”

Rawls graduated in ’76, and played football.

“Hey, I loved it,” he said. “Coach Sharp is a disciplinarian, so it was tough.”

The ’76 team lost to Athens in the finals of the state playoffs.

His brother Rex played basketball, and his team also went to the finals.

Rawls said through his younger siblings, and later, through his cousins, he’s always kept up with the Bulldogs.

“We were stair-steps growing up, so almost every year, one of us has a class reunion,” he said.

The tailgating crew got permission from the administration at Leeds to tailgate, and decided to feed anybody who stopped by. The menu included hamburgers, hotdogs, Conecuh sausage, chips and drinks.

“It was great to see everybody,” he said.
