Family and friends supported the Sassers through their journey with Cooper, and the Sassers are passing that along to support Kellen Findley. Kellen is battling embroynal rhabdomysosarcoma, a disease that is a rare histological form of cancer of connective tissue wherein the mesenchymally-derived malignant cells resemble the primitive developing skeletal muscle of the embryo. It is the most common soft tissue sarcoma occurring in children.

Sasser said Kellen’s family met with oncologists recently and they gave him a slim chance of defeating the cancer.

Doctors were unable to remove a tumor due to its size, and it also attached to a large portion of the inside of the chest cavity.

The surgeon wasn’t confident he would be able to remove the tumor without endangering Kellen’s life.

The family has been given one last option.

“Kellen will receive three different chemo treatment medications that he has not currently received,” she said. “The goal is for the tumor to react and show signs of shrinking. If it shows signs of shrinking, they will continue this treatment and stay in close contact with MD Anderson. If possible, the No. 1 surgeon at MD Anderson will evaluate and decide if the tumor can be removed. If the tumor does not react to this chemo, there are no more options.”

Sasser said that Kellen really enjoys getting his own mail, and his birthday is Jan. 3.

“So, we are asking that everyone please place $1 in a birthday card and mail it to Tater’s Troops, P.O. Box 867 Andalusia, AL 36420 and help us to put a big smile on this baby’s face,” she said.
