Mary Ann Weed

Mary Ann Weed died Nov. 13, 2016, on her 92nd birthday.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Sam Wilson Weed; her son, Sam DeLarry Weed; and her grandson, Larry Scott Weed.

She leaves, to cherish her memory her daughters, Jennifer Weed (Ken) and Gwendolyn Weed (Robert); grandchildren, Stephanie Weed (George), Mary Kristen Frank (Jonathan), and Nicholas Galanos (Betsy); great-grandchildren Anna-Scott King, Tallulah Eden Frank, Samuel Harrison Frank, Isaac Nicholas Frank, and Scarlett Diana Frank, nieces, nephews, and friends. Mary Weed will forever be remembered as a smart and strong woman who was dedicated to her faith and her family. She was a loving wife, mother, and friend. Until Alzheimer’s sabotaged her life four years ago, Mary enjoyed lunching with friends, playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, exercising daily, cooking for loved ones, attending church and being an active member of the North Mobile community. She lived her life well, cherishing each day, always thankful for each moment, and never forgetting she was a child of God.

Funeral services were held Thurs., Nov. 17, 2016, in the Chapel of Pine Crest Funeral Home at 11 a.m.

Terry Wayne Hammonds

Mr. Terry Wayne Hammonds, 66, of Evergreen, passed away Fri., Dec. 2, 2016, after a stoic battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Sun., Dec. 4, in the Richard Brown Gymnasium, at Sparta Academy in Evergreen with Cope-Keahey Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 pm., Sat., Dec. 3, 2016, at Cope-Keahey Funeral Home.

The family requests in lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Sparta Academy for a sponsorship of a student c/o Brandy Riley at Sparta Academy or Kenny Bledsoe at the Bank of Evergreen. Memorial contributions may also be made to the Hope Lodge c/o Joe Lee Griffin 1104 Ireland Way, Birmingham, AL 35205.

Mr. Hammonds was the headmaster at Sparta Academy for many years up until the time of his passing.

 

Lawana Hughes

Mrs. Lawana Hughes, age 71, of Robertsdale, formerly of Covington County passed away Wed., Nov. 30, 2016, in a Foley hospital.

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Sat., Dec. 3, 2016, at Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. Keahey Funeral Home & Cremation Services are entrusted with arrangements.

The Rev. Jay Driver will officiate the service.

Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Jeffcoat, Austin Hughes, and Josh Eubanks.

She is survived by her husband, Melvin Hughes; son and daughter-in-law, Micheal & Shannon Hughes of Robertsdale; daughters and son-in-law, Vanessa and Wesley Jeffcoat of Andalusia, and Debra Hughes of Americus, Ga.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
