Straughn Middle School eighth grader Grace Philpott etched her name in the Straughn High School record books by becoming the first swimmer in school history to earn a spot in the AHSAA State Championship Swim Meet.

“It’s an honor and privilege to be the first ever swimmer to represent Straughn at the state swim meet,” Philpott said. “Qualifying as an eighth grader, is very humbling when I’m competing against swimmers who are older than me.”

Philpott will compete in today’s preliminary round at Auburn University in the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke.

“I hope this is my first of many times to represent Straughn at the state level.” Philpott said.
