Hospital’s ER director earns national recognition

Andalusia Health’s Emergency Department director Amy Herrington recently co-accepted a national team award at the 2016 Emergency Nursing Association Awards Gala in California.

Herrington was one of the original LifePoint Emergency Department Council members when it was formed in 2012.

Herrington nominated the Emergency Department Council for the ENA TEAM award for 2016. The council brings together a diverse group of members from LifePoint facilities across the nation, representing 69 hospitals with a combined 1.45 million Emergency Department visits annually. The council developed best practices and determine how best to implement them across the enterprise. Through their efforts, LifePoint facilities have made the following throughput improvements:

  • Overall Length of Stay (LOS) from 172 minutes to 150 minutes
  • Arrival to Medical Screening and Evaluation (MSE) from 39 minutes to 23 minutes
  • Left without Treatment (LWOT percent) from 2.2 percent to 1 percent.
  • Disposition to departure from 34 minutes to 29 minutes
  • Arrival to pain management (OP-21) from 54 minutes to 32 minutes
