A local teen was killed in an ATV accident Sunday afternoon.

Covington County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy David Anderson said that deputies responded to a call of an ATV accident in the Garden community in Northern Covington County at around 5 p.m., on Sunday.

“Upon arrival, deputies discovered a 14-year-old white male suffering from life-threatening injuries when the side-by-side that he was driving apparently rolled over in a private field north of Casey Lee Road,” he said.

Anderson said the teen was thrown from the ATV and was trapped underneath it.

“Two other juvenile males that were passengers ran to the family residence to notify family members,” Anderson said. “Family members picked up the ATV off of the victim and started CPR.”

Anderson said EMS officials determined that the injuries were very severe and caused the 14-year-old to pass away from injuries sustained.

Covington County Coroner Norman Hobson pronounced the victim dead.

Covington County deputies, Buck Creek Volunteer Fire Department and Advanced EMS responded to the scene. Anderson has not released the teen’s name.
