Big seasons merit top honors

As the 2016 AHSAA football season came to end, several local high school stars were honored with spots on this year’s ASWA All-State rosters.

Andalusia led the way in the county with five players selected, including three on the Class 4A’s first-team roster.

Wide receiver Derrick McQueen, offensive lineman Tommy Kanaley and defensive back Allan George picked up first-team honors for the Bulldogs.

Linebacker Antonio Gurley landed on the second-team roster, and quarterback Ethan Wilson received honorable mention.

The Class 3A Opp Bobcats had three players to pick up first-team honors, in defensive back Hennis Washington, defensive lineman Tree Lane and athlete Orlando Lacey.

Rounding out the list of Covington County players, was Class 1A Red Level’s John Lee.

Lee was selected as first-team running back for Class 1A.
