Charles Henry “C. H.” McCrory

Mr. Charles Henry “C. H.” McCrory, 83, of Andalusia, passed away Tues., Dec. 27, 2016 at his residence.

C. H. retired from Church Street School, having taught there for 37 years. He preached at Mott Church of Christ for 24 years and recently retired from preaching at Rose Hill Church of Christ due to declining health. Along with his wife, Virginia, the two have been active members of the Central Church of Christ for many years.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Fri., Dec. 30, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers Daniel Roberts and Trip Jones officiating the service. The interment will follow in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation with friends will begin at 12 noon on Friday at Foreman Funeral Home. Congregational singing during the service will be led by Alan Lindsey.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia McCrory; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Dianne McCrory; two daughters and sons-in-law, ReNay and Ceil Smith, Laura and Ritchie Grissett; his grandchildren, Chad and Kelly McCrory, Shae and Michael Page, Shelley and Scott Boswell, and Lydia and Ryan Grissett; his great-grandchildren, Blakely and Sutton McCrory, Annistyn, Jack, and Allie Grace Page, Hollyn Boswell; two sisters, Doris Darby and Carolyn Watson; a brother-in-law, Buddy Monarch; and many nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to the staff of Comfort Care Hospice for the care he and the family received during his sickness.

Pallbearers will be Ceil Smith, Ritchie Grissett, Michael Page, Jerry Vucovich, Ryan Grissett, and Byron Thomasson.

Mavis E. Bass McVay

Mavis E. Bass McVay of Andalusia, was born March 17, 1922, in Covington County, Ala., to Stacy B. and Alline Rowell Bass and was the oldest of 10 children. After enjoying almost 95 years of good health, on Monday evening, Dec. 26, celebrating Christmas holidays with her family at her old home place, she was suddenly and unexpectedly called home.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Sybil Day; four brothers, Marcus Bass, Cecil Bass, Grover Bass, and Hubert Bass; two brothers-in-law, Lewis Wilson, and L.A. McVay; two sisters-in-law, Louise Morris, and Dosia Etheridge; and one son-in-law, Charles H. Williamson.

She is survived by three daughters, Loyce McVay, Joan Williamson, and Miriam (Matthew) Cunningham; six sons, Richard (Dru) McVay, Michael (Runae) McVay, Samuel (June) McVay, David (Tracie) McVay, Nathaniel (Linda) McVay, and Jonathan (Debbie) McVay; 32 grandchildren; 32 great- grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; three sisters, Marguerite Martin, Betty (Gerald) Wood, and Audrey Wilson; one brother, Quinton Bass; three sisters-in-law, Louise Bass, June Lipa, and Elmira Penton; one brother-in-law, Cecil Day; and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.

She loved to read her Bible and do her daily devotions. She attended church every time the doors were open and encouraged everyone else to do the same. She loved sewing, crocheting, cooking, gardening, reading, word search, and watching Wheel of Fortune and Hallmark movies. She loved traveling and had been to many places in the USA, as well as Spain and Portugal. She loved singing gospel music with the family at family gatherings. She was a long standing faithful member of Shady Hill Free Will Baptist Church, a long-time supporter of Welch College (and was an honorary alumnus), and Free Will Baptist International Missions.

She taught us how to live the Christian life by example, and showed us the meaning of “actions speak louder than words.” She was a fervent prayer warrior.

Family will receive visitors at Foreman Funeral Home on Fri., Dec. 30, from 5-8 p.m. The funeral will be Sat., Dec. 31, at Shady Hill Free Will Baptist Church, 11344 Hogfoot Road, Andalusia, AL, at 11 AM, with visitation one hour prior to service. Dr. Matthew Pinson and the Rev. Michael McVay will officiate. The grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and Wesley Bass will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.

 

Ethan Jose Tillis

Ethan Jose Tillis, age 3 weeks, of Opp passed away Fri., Dec. 23, 2016.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Thurs., Dec. 29, 2016, at the Keahey Funeral Home Chapel.

The Rev. Derwood Cleland will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Interment will follow in the Peaceful Acres cemetery with Keahey Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include h is father, Dorsey Tillis of Opp; mother, Randi Blue of Opp; sister, Emma Blue of Opp; brothers, Nicholas Lane of Orlando, La’Mekio Williams of Opp, Adrian Grier of Florala, and Donnie Morrison of Idaho; grandmothers, Mary Tillis and Patty Martin, both of Opp; and grandfathers, George Martin of Opp and Willie Dorsey Smith of Birmingham.

Ethan is preceded in death by his grandfather, Steve Blue, and his sister, Mercedas Lane.

 

Jimmy Earl “J-Mutt” McCormick

Mr. Jimmy Earl “J-Mutt” McCormick passed away Mon., Dec. 26, 2016, at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 41.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Fri., Dec. 30, 2016, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory in Enterprise with the Rev. Terry Godwin officiating. Burial will follow in the Peaceful Acres cemetery in Opp, with Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory of Enterprise directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday beginning at 1 p.m. and continuing until service time.

Jimmy was born April 21, 1975, in Orlando, Fla., to William Earl and Mary Ann Skipper McCormick.

Survivors include his wife, Victoria McCormick; six children: Kelly McCormick, Ambria Wheeler, Aaliyah McCormick, Jimmy McCormick , Chloe McCormick, and Makenna McCormick, all of Opp; parents, Earl and Mary McCormick of Opp; and one sister, Starla Hicks, Opp.

Sara Eunice Woodall

Mrs. Sara Eunice Woodall, age 93, of Andalusia, died Wed., Dec. 28, 2016, at Andalusia Manor Nursing Facility.

1229-woodall-obit-picA graveside service for Mrs. Woodall will be conducted at 11 a.m. Fri., Dec. 30, at Bethel Cemetery in the Babbie community with the Rev. Tommy Greene officiating. There will be no visitation.

Mrs. Woodall is survived by numerous special nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Woodall Jr.; brother, Coleman Kennedy; twin sister, Lois Tisdale; and other sisters, Corinne Kennedy and Doris McDaniel.
