Flash flood warning in effect until midnight

The National Weather Service has flash flood warning until midnight tonight for areas of South Alabama and Northwest Florida, stretching from Mobile to Covington County.

According to the NWS, periods of moderate to heavy rain are expected this afternoon into the overnight hours. Significant rainfall accumulations may lead to possible flash flooding. Accumulations of two to three inches is likely with locally higher amounts possible.

At 3:30 p.m., the Choctawhatchee, Pea and Yellow Rivers Water Management Authority had recorded more than four inches of rain in the past 72 hours on the Yellow River at Hwy. 84, and 1.28 inches on the Yellow River at Hwy. 55.

The river is well below flood stage.
