The Class 4A No. 2-ranked Andalusia Bulldogs needed overtime on Tuesday night in Samson, but remained undefeated after knocking off the Tigers 62-57.

In the opening period, the Bulldogs jumped out front behind a 3-pointer from R.J. Drish.

Alex Sheridan went 2-for-2 at the free throw line and picked up a layup to help lead the Bulldogs to an 11-4 led at the end of the first period.

The Bulldogs remained sluggish in the second period and allowed the Tigers to tie the game 20-20 heading into halftime.

Allan George knocked down a 3-pointer and B.J. Anderson picked up 4 points as the Bulldogs’ top-scorers in the second period.

Opening up the second half, the intensity from both teams picked up, but it was Samson who held a 36-34 lead heading into the final frame of regulation.

Drish connected for his second 3-pointer of the night and also added a free throw to lead the way for Andalusia in the third period.

The Bulldogs’ found a spark in the fourth period from Drish who drained a pair of 3-pointers to help the Bulldogs force overtime.

Anderson pitched in 5 points for the Bulldogs in the fourth period.

Andalusia opened with a bucket from Anderson in overtime and held the Tigers off to pick up the overtime victory.

“We came out and played pretty flat and just didn’t shoot the ball well early in the game,” Andalusia head coach Anthony Clark said. “Samson is a tough little ball club with a lot of seniors, and we were just fortunate to come out of there with a win. There at the end we picked it up a little bit. We were actually down with by seven with just over two minutes left in the game and R.J. (Drish) and Allan (George) hit back-to-back threes and B.J. had a little poke out steal that he turned into a layup. We got the lead with 17 seconds left and they tied back up with 4 seconds to send it to overtime. Once in overtime, we scored first and just controlled it the rest of the way.”

Anderson finished the night as the Bulldogs’ top-scorer with 17 points.

Drish ended the night with 15 points, and Allan George chipped in 11 points.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday when they take on W.S. Neal for the Class 4A, Area 2 opener.
