Preparations are being made for the third annual Next Step Career Expo.

Beth Dean, career coach for Covington County Schools, said the final preparation is under way for Friday’s event.

“We are working to ensure the day runs smoothly and stand ready to assist you with your final preparations.”

Dean said the past two events have been huge successes, bringing in more than 800 students and more than 80 businesses each day.

The event has previously garnered interest from the state career coach coordinator and Region 10 Workforce Development officials.

Students from Andalusia, Florala, Opp, Pleasant Home, Red Level and Straughn took advantage of the hands-on interactive career exploration led by career professionals at the last two events, and organizers expect this year’s to be no different.

Dean said that the event will be located at the Kiwanis Fairgrounds and will run from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

“All participants will be provided a table and two chairs,” she said. “If you need more space or have requests and have not let us know, please contact us so that we can make sure you have enough room when we set up the exhibits.”

Businesses have two time slots to set up their exhibits:

  • 1 p.m. until 5 p.m., on Thurs., Jan. 12;
  • 6:30 a.m. until 8 a.m., on Fri., Jan. 13

Dean said that businesses need to bring their own extension cords.

The LBWCC Ambassadors and LBWCC baseball team will be on hand to assist during the event.

Southeast Alabama Gas District is providing the hospitality room and Paradigm Investments/Hardee’s is providing breakfast.
