2 charged, 30 pounds of pot seized in Elba

Four law enforcement agencies collaborated on a search Monday that led to the seizure of 30 pounds of marijuana, and the arrests of two people.

According to information provided by Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the State Bureau of Investigation’s vice unit, along with  investigators from the Enterprise Police Department, Dale County Sheriff’s Office and Elba Police Department, conducted a  search warrant at 460 Reynolds Ave., in Elba on Mon.., Jan. 9.

Officers found approximately 30 pounds of marijuana with an estimated value of $30,000, U.S. currency totaling $5,100, 51 Hydrocodone pills, and approximately 9 grams of crack cocaine with an estimated street value of $450.

Brandon V. Smith, 28, of Atlanta and Charles D. Carpenter, 32, of Elba were arrested and charged with trafficking marijuana and two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance. They are being held in the Coffee County Jail. Bond has not yet been set.
