James Harold “Harry” Crews

James Harold “Harry” Crews, age 70, passed away following a heart attack at St. Vincent’s Hospital Riverside in Jacksonville, Fla., on Thurs., Jan.5, 207. He was born on Jan. 8, 1946, in Andalusia, to Jimmy and Eleanor Crews.

Harry is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda. Also surviving are his daughter, Angie Barker (Matt); five grandchildren, Summer Crews, Michael Crews, Dylan Barker, Logan Barker and Hanna Barker; and one great-grandson, Brayden Crews; his mother, Eleanor Glidewell; sister, Mala Elam (David); niece, Elizabeth Elam; nephew, Daniel Elam; brother-in-law, Gary Bass (Dora); and daughter-in-law Dana Crews. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Crews, and his father, Jimmy Crews.

Harry retired from 20 years in the USAF in August 1985. He worked for 16 years at Health First Holmes Regional Medical Center, retiring in June 2009.

He volunteered at the Patrick AFB Retirees Affairs Office, Valiant Air Command Warbird Air Museum, and was a member of PCARS Ham Radio Club.

A memorial service will be held Tues., Jan. 10, at 5 p.m. at Tomoka Christian – Palm Bay Campus, 344 Emerson Drive NW, Palm Bay, FL 32907.

 

Marilyn Ruth Hill

Mrs. Marilyn Ruth Hill, age 86, of Andalusia, passed away Fri., Jan. 6, 2017 at Andalusia Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wed., Jan. 11, 2017, from Foreman Funeral Home with the Rev. Jason Thrower and the Rev. Billy Boles officiating. Interment will follow in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be an hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hill is survived by her husband, E. Lister Hill of Andalusia; nephews, Mark Hill, Craig Hill, Chip Hill, Kenny Hill, Danny Posey, and Gary Posey; nieces, Melodee Hill Robinson, Sherril Bird, and Sandra Culp; numerous great nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bobby and Merle Hill of Montgomery; and a very special friend, Helen Pancake.

The family will accept flowers or donations may be made to the Education and Building Fund at the First Methodist Church.

Gwendolyn Cosby Pitts

Mrs. Gwendolyn Cosby Pitts was born on April 10, 1928, and passed away on Jan. 7, 2017, at a nursing home facility in Montgomery.

She was the daughter of the late Esther Jones Peacock of Gantt, and the late Ray Cosby of Troy. She is preceded in death by her husband, Cleo Pitts of Andalusia, and her sister, Juanita Pitts of Niagara Falls, N.Y.

Mrs. Pitts is survived by one daughter, Sheryl Pitts of Montgomery; one granddaughter, Kimberly Theus of Montgomery; two sisters, Marsha Cetti of Carollton, Ga., and Regina King of Peachtree City, Ga.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A private burial service was held on Mon., Jan. 9, at Coldwater Cemetery in Gantt.

Ann Marie Davis Shaffer

Ann Marie Davis Shaffer was born Feb. 5, 1943, and died Jan. 6, 2017, at the age of 73. That was her lifespan, but the life that was lived between those two dates was more than most could hope for. She was Momma to four children, and Nana to 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. However, she was also “mom” to so many more. Her joy was infectious and her smile would brighten the darkest room. She was a singer and songwriter of music through the ages, but the greatest song she ever sang was penned by her heart in the life she lived. We will miss you, Ann Marie Shaffer, but we will see you again.

0110_shafferann2Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wed., Jan. 11, 2017, from Andalusia Bible Church with Brother Timothy Morgan and Brother Gary Holloway officiating. Interment will follow in Goodhope Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tues., Jan. 10, 2017, at Foreman Funeral Home. She will lie in state an hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

She is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Sonia Lynn Shaffer and Gina Marie and Steven French; son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Jeremie Shaffer; grandchildren, Jamie Holloway, Brittany Piland, Ethan Beesley, Dakota Quackenbos, Tanna Nall, Steffanie Cook, Grayson French, Lorren Shaffer, and Riley Shaffer; six great grandchildren Andrew Holloway, Juliana Broder, Jacoby Broder, Lakelynn Marie Quackenbos, Ian Nall, and Skylar Nall; a brother Charles Davis; her only sister, Linda Longo; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Andrew “Andy” Thomas Shaffer; one daughter, Lorie Ann Shaffer; one grandson, Andrew Jonathan Thomas Shaffer; three brothers, Art,  O’Neal, and Jerry Davis; and her mother and father, Grace and William Davis.

James Milton Davis

James Milton Davis, 70, of Andalusia, went home to be with the Lord on Wed., Nov. 23, 2016.

He was born in Lockhart on Jan. 22, 1946, where he grew up, and moved to Andalusia 35 years ago.

He worked for a number of years at Piggly Wiggly in Andalusia and Greenville.

He is remembered as a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, as well as a friend to all who knew him.

During his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, had a heart for animals and loved beautiful scenery, especially the mountains.

On Saturdays during the fall, he was always pulling for the Tide.

He fought a short, but courageous battle with cancer and will be missed by many.

He is survived by his children, Dennis (Katrina) Davis; Stacey (Christy) Davis; Kevin Davis and Heather (Curtis) Russell; grandchildren, Kendra Majors, Eric (Maklyn) Kilpatrick, Chris Kilpatrick(Kortni), Ashley Beck, Austin Davis, Taryn Davis, Christian Davis, Jonathan Davis, Timothy Davis and Cameron Russell; and four great-grandchildren, Kenleigh Bolling, Addyson Kilpatrick, Gabriel McClendon and Kyla Kilpatrick.

He is also survived by his sisters, Frances Turner and Doris McCartha.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Sat., Jan. 14, 2017, at Pleasant Home Baptist Church.

Chris Kilpatrick, Doug Geohagan and the Rev. Fred Kelley will officiate.

 

Rafael Malave

Mr. Rafael Malave, age 51, of Andalusia passed away Fri., Jan. 6, 2017, from injuries sustained in an accident. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wed., Jan. 11, 2017, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends at Keahey Funeral Home from noon on Wednesday until time to depart for the services at the church.

The Rev. Dr. Cynthia Carter Howard will officiate. Interment will follow in Stone Lake Gardens. Keahey Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements.

Mr. Malave was preceded in death by his mother in August 2016. Left to cherish his memory is his sister, Luz Margarita; brothers, Augie Crespo, Tomas Malave, William Malave, and Alberto Malave; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
