Scale Back weigh-ins start tomorrow

Four local businesses and facilities will serve as weigh-in sites for the state’s largest weight-loss and exercise program, Scale Back Alabama, this year. In its 11th year, the program has resulted in millions of pounds lost and lots of healthy habits formed, and the 2017 contest starts next week. Local sites include:

  • Darby’s Medical Center Pharmacy, 822A S. Three Notch St., 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
  • Darby’s Village Pharmacy, 301 E. Three Notch, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Mizell Wellness Center, 501 Brantley St., Opp, 6 a.m. until 8 p.m., Wed., Thurs., Mon. and Tues.; 6 a.m. until 3 p.m. Fri.; and 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. Sat.
  • Andalusia Health, S. Three Notch St.

Adults in teams of two can go online at www.scalebackalabama.com to register for the free, 8-week program and then go to participating organizations to weigh in at specified times. All participants must be 18 years of age and older, live or work in Alabama and must weigh in at an official site Jan. 11-18 to be eligible to participate. Those who lose at least 10 pounds will be included in the cash prize drawings on April 5.

In last year’s Scale Back event, there were 21,652 participants. Of those, 7,642 recorded weigh losses totaling 76,485 pounds.

Scale Back Alabama is a collaboration of the Alabama Hospital Association, the Alabama Department of Public Health and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama.
