Dairy Queen of Andalusia got a brand new sign on Tuesday, and it’s just the first step in a series of updates coming to the historic fast-food restaurant.

“We are making some changes and updates to go along with requirements of being a Dairy Queen Grill and Chill,” Dairy Queen franchise partner Umang Bole said. “There are some different things that we are going to be adding and updating.”

Even with the upgrades, Bole said much of the place won’t lose its iconic look.

“We want to keep the historical image,” Bole said. “The outside of the dining building will remain the same. It’s a very historical part of Andalusia and for Dairy Queen. People come from miles around to see the old sign and the building.”

Bole said that upgrades would be done to the inside of the dining building.

“To go along with franchise requirements, we are adding new furniture in the dining area and updating the inside,” Bole said. “We are also adding a drive-thru window to the other window, but we will keep the order and pick-up windows the same. Having people ordering and chatting outside is a neat aspect of the place that we want to keep the same.”

At the moment, Bole said that no time-table has been set on the upgrades, and that the current plans are awaiting approval.

“Right now, we don’t have any date on when we will start the upgrades, but hopefully we will have it finished in the next couple of months,” Bole said. “We are all very excited about the upgrades and changes. Some of the changes are not by choice, but are mandated by the franchise. We want to as much of the history of this place intact as possible.”

Bole said that on Sat., Jan. 21, Dairy Queen will have customer appreciation day and that everything will be half-off.
