Andalusia slams Opp

The No. 5-ranked Andalusia Bulldogs put together a pair of big games as they swept the cross-county rival Opp Bobcats on Friday night in Opp.

GIRLS

ANDALUSIA 46,

OPP 14

Andalusia came out on fire and cruised past the Lady Bobcats for a 46-14 victory.

The Lady Bulldogs’ defense was in lock down mode to start the game, and quickly forced eight straight Lady Bobcat turnovers.

Andalusia got several buckets from Alex Crittenden and Shalisa Thomas to put the Lady Bulldogs up 19-0 midway through the opening period.

At the end of the first period, the Lady Bulldogs held a 26-3 advantage.

Crittenden led the Lady Bulldogs with 18 points.

“We accomplished the things that we wanted to do tonight,” Lady Bulldogs’ head coach Brad Garner said. “We started off with intensity and really played like we are supposed to early.”

BOYS

ANDALUSIA 64,

OPP 42

In the final game of the evening, the Andalusia Bulldogs surged in the second half to knock off the Bobcats 64-42.

Orlando Lacey got the Bobcats on the board first with a free throw following a steal, but Andalusia answered right back with a 3-pointer from Ke’Shon Townsend to put the Bulldogs on top.

R.J. Drish knocked down a 3-pointer a few minutes later and then a pull up jumper from B.J. Anderson had Andalusia on top 12-5.

Shaun Tillis inched the Bobcats back into the game with a pair of 3-pointers, but Andalusia was on top 17-15 heading into the second period.

Tillis tied the game up to start the second period with a free throw.

Both teams continued to battle it out, and Tillis connected with a 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer to put the Bobcats up 26-24.

Andalusia came out strong with a steal and layup from Townsend to start the third period and tie the game.

Anderson came up with 9 points including a big 3-pointer to give the Bulldogs a 44-30 lead heading into the final frame.

The Bulldogs continued to apply the pressure and held off the Bobcats in the final period for a 64-42 victory.

Drish led the Bulldogs with 16 points.

Anderson finished the night with 15 points, and Trey Wilkerson added 10 points in the win.

“Opp really came out ready to play tonight,” Andalusia head coach Anthony Clark said. “I thought our defense played well in the first half and better in the second half. Overall, I was proud of our effort.”

Lacey led the Bobcats with 14 points.

Tillis ended the night with 13 points for Opp.

Andalusia’s game against Greenville on Monday has been cancelled due to Greenville having to make up an area game.

The Bulldogs will be at home against Luverne on Thursday for senior night.
