The Straughn Tigers surged in the final frame, but couldn’t overcome the early deficit as they fell 73-65 to the Elba Tigers on Saturday in Straughn.

Elba stormed out front in the opening period and mounted a 28-11 lead.

Straughn kept pushing, but still found themselves trailing 38-23 heading into the third.

Elba poured it on in the third period and held a 57-34 heading into the final frame.

In the fourth, Straughn erupted for 31 points and nearly fought their way to a win, but the 23-point deficit entering the final frame was too much for Straughn to overcome.

Keaun Samuel led the Straughn with 18 points and Hank Peeples ended with 17.
