William Terry Wilkes

William Terry Wilkes, age 75, passed away at Mizell Memorial Hospital on the early morning of Fri., Jan. 27, 2017, following an extended illness.

A memorial service, conducted by the Rev. Walter Kenney and the Rev. Alan Dieas will be held at 10 a.m. Sat., Feb. 4, 2017, at Beulah Baptist Church with Keahey Funeral Home of Lockhart directing. The family requests in lieu of flowers, any memorials be made to the Beulah Baptist Church Youth Fund.

He is survived by one son, Scott Wilkes; Scott’s mother, Mildred Herring; one sister, Betty Wilkes Hattaway; nephews, Charles (Patricia) Beddingfield and David Beddingfield; one stepdaughter, Linda Pate; one stepson, Gerald Stokes; and five step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Ruby Wilkes; stepdaughter Cathy Anderton; and step-grandsons, Johnny and Kenny Bledsoe.

 

Dudley Franklin Johnson

Dudley Franklin Johnson was born Oct. 11, 1963, at Tallahassee Memorial hospital, Tallahassee, Fla. Dudley suffered with congenital developmental delay and severe epilepsy due to hypsarrhythmia with profound mental retardation. Dudley became a resident of Hammond State School in 1968 and was a lifelong resident at that facility until it closed in December 2016. Evergreen Life Services began providing care at Hammond State School (now North Lakes Support Services Center) in 2014 and moved residents out to group homes in the community. Dudley’s group moved in December 2016 to Wadesboro Group home near Ponchatoula, La., where he received great care. Dudley suffered an apparent stroke and cardiac arrest on the evening of Jan. 28, 2017, and did not survive.

0201-dudley-obitHe is preceded in death by his mother, Julia Ann Barrow Temple; father, Dudley Sadie Johnson; maternal grandparents, Malcolm Taft Barrow and Nancy Lee Moore Barrow; paternal grandparents, John Henry Johnson and Mattie O. Bass Johnson; and paternal uncle, Kenneth Ray Johnson.

He is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Karen Johnson, and Graham and Christy Temple; nephew, Christopher Daniel Johnson and wife Kathryn; niece, Julia Adele Johnson; aunt, Marilyn Johnson; cousins, Sally and Nancy Johnson; and extensive extended family.

Dudley taught us all much about love, compassion and caring for those who are less fortunate. In lieu of flowers, donations to Evergreen Life Services at 1170 HWY 51 N, Pontchatoula, La., or Voice of the Retarded (VOR) would be greatly appreciated.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Fri., Feb. 3, 2017, from Beda Cemetery with James Parker officiating. Visitation will start at 11:30 a.m. at Evans Funeral Home.

Timothy Bentley Patterson

Mr. Timothy Bentley Patterson, 52, of Holt, Fla., formerly of Andalusia, passed away Sun., Jan. 29, 2017, at his residence.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thurs., Feb. 2, 2017, from Foreman Funeral Home with Dr. Jason Thrower officiating. Interment will follow in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Foreman Funeral Home.

He is survived by his twin brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Wanda Patterson of Holt, Fla.; a sister, Susan Patterson Bown of Andalusia; four nephews, Ty Jackson, Kaleb Jackson, Jason Jackson, and Dillon Smith; three nieces, Bonnie Whitfield, Abby Cooper, and Whitney Jordan.

Pallbearers will be Derek Stump, Chuck Studstill, Jason Jackson, Ty Jackson, Caleb Jackson, and Michael Whitfield

Dorothy Stewart McRae

Miles Funeral Home in Hazlehurst, Ga., announces the funeral service for Mrs. Dorothy Stewart McRae, age 88, of Hazlehurst, who passed away Sun., Jan. 29, 2017. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thurs., Feb. 2, 2017, in the First Baptist Church in Hazlehurst.

The Rev. J. Barry Owens and the Rev. Dewitt Corbin will officiate with burial in the Hazlehurst City Cemetery.

Mrs. McRae was born in Lumber City, Ga., but had lived in Hazlehurst for most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Claud D. Stewart and Dora Strickland Stewart and the wife of the late Dr. Dan McRae. Mrs. McRae was also preceded in death by brothers, James E. Stewart and Danny Stewart. She was a retired florist and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hazlehurst.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Suzanne and Terry Powell of Andalusia; Maria and David Crooke of Dublin, Ga.; grandchildren, Kyle (Ashley) Powell of Auburn, Katelyn (Cory) Ellis of Opp, and Leah Crooke of Statesboro, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Sara Frances Powell, Foster Deas Powell, Adeline Lorraine Powell, Woodham Reid Ellis, Georgia Catherine Ellis, and Thomas David Ellis. Several special cousins also survive.

Active pallbearers will be Reid Ellis, Cory Ellis, Kyle Powell, Stanley Land, Don Rollins and Phil Merritt.

Honorary pallbearers will be Marilyn Rowell, Brenda Merritt, John & Joyce Dykes, Fannie Lou Rentz, Ben and Sue Duckett, Jim Morris, Rufus and Sarah Wiggins, Sherry and Ronnie Browning, Janice Rollins, Gail Hesters, and Wanda and Buddy Brewer.
