OPD nabs 4 in separate drug cases

Opp Police arrested four people in two different cases Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning.

On Monday afternoon around 1:15 p.m., an OPD B-shift officer stopped a vehicle on the Florala Highway for a traffic infraction.

Opp Police Chief Mike McDonald said as a result of the investigation, three individuals were arrested for possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Arrested were Kenneth A. Polk, 34, of Samson; Joshua R. Smith, 24, of Opp; and Melanie I. Garza, 33, of Samson.

They were booked in the Covington County Jail.

On Tuesday morning around 12:15, a D-shift officer was conducting routine patrol in the area of West Hart Avenue when he observed a silver four-door Ford that had an expired license plate.

“The officer stopped the car on West Cummings Avenue,” McDonald said.

An investigation by the office and the K9 unit, resulted in the arrest of Richard E. Torres, 42, of Daleville. Torres was charged with possession of marijuana second degree and possession of drug paraphernalia.
