National Signing Day for college football has arrived, and a number of local standout athletes will place their signatures on letters of intent to continue their playing careers at various colleges around the country.
Andalusia has five players who are expected to sign today in the library at Andalusia High School.
Cornerback Allan George received a number of offers, but ultimately made the decision to sign with the SEC’s Vanderbilt University.
Offensive lineman Tommy Kanaley inked his signature to continue his playing career at the University of West Florida.
Linebacker Antonio Gurley made the decision to stay in state and signed with Faulkner University in Montgomery.
The Bulldogs had a pair of players sign to play at Alabama Prep-Birmingham, in wide receiver Derrick McQueen and defensive back Tyquise Jenkins. Alabama Prep-Birmingham is a post high school prep school that competes against other prep schools and college junior varsity programs.
Andalusia running back Jamal Hourel has a few offers on the table and will continue to weigh his decision for a few days.
Other senior Bulldogs including Zack Woods, TreMayne Stoudemire and Kendrick Brown are waiting to hear from Faulkner.
The Opp Bobcats also had players sign letters of intent to continue their playing careers in college.
Bobcat quarterback Orlando Lacey signed a scholarship from Troy where he will play either wide receiver or defensive back.
Linebacker Tremequez Lane and running back Hennis Washington both signed letters of intent to play for Albany State.
