Gantt’s new post office almost ready

Gantt should have a post office again as early as March, Mayor Missy Grissett said.

For months, residents who previously received mail at the Gantt post office have had to choose between having their mail delivered to the Gantt Town Hall or the Dozier Post Office.

But the U.S. Postal Service has entered a lease agreement with the Town of Gantt for the old cable office building, which is being renovated.

“We bought the old cable office building,” Grissett said. “The post office was looking for a place to go, and we wanted to keep a post office here for the town’s identity.”

The new building is located across the street from town hall. Before it was Andalusia Cable, it was the Goldkist fertilizer office, Grissett said.

“We bought it from Andalusia Cable with the intent for post office to move there,” she said.

The boxes have already installed, she said, and the finishing work is being done, she said. The building is easily accessible, Grissett said, with plenty of parking.
