Restaurant queen Nell Herrington is back.
She’s opened up Granny’s Seafood & Grill in the old Barr’s location in Opp.
“We actually opened two weeks ago,” she said. “It’s wonderful. I couldn’t be happier.”
Herrington, who previously owned restaurants in the Perry Store Community and Kinston.
“I’ve been in the restaurant business for 20-something-odd years,” she said. “I retired about five years ago, and then my husband died back in May of 2016.”
Herrington decided she needed to get out of the house.
So, Granny’s Seafood and Grill was born.
She said those who have eaten at her previous restaurants will see similar fare.
“We have a lunch special of the day,” she said. “It features two meats and four sides. The meats are usually baked chicken, friend chicken, fried pork chops, salted pork or liver and onions.”
Those who don’t have an appetite for the lunch special may order off of the menu, which she said features a variety including hamburger steaks, hamburgers, cheeseburgers and BLTs.
Thursday nights are steak special nights.
And Friday and Saturday feature seafood.
“I get the seafood fresh from the Gulf,” she said. “I use a seafood guy out of Dothan.”
One difference Herrington said her former customers will notice is there is on steambar.
“It’s strictly order,” she said. “But we have been busy, busy.”
Restaurant hours are Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., for lunch; Thursday night steak special nigh from 5 until 8:30; Friday night seafood, 5 until 8:30 p.m.; and Saturday night steak and seafood from 5 until 8:30 p.m.
They are closed on Sundays.
The restaurant’s address is 205 E. Covington Avenue, or call 334-342-0184.
