The Straughn Tigers swept the Slocomb Red Tops in the opening round of the Class 3A, Area 3 tournament in Geneva on Monday night.

GIRLS

STRAUGHN 40,     SLOCOMB 39

In the opening match, the Lady Tigers held off Slocomb for a 40-39 win.

Alyssa Dean led the way with 18 points.

Caroline Wood finished the night with 5 points.

The Lady Tigers play the winner of today’s game between Opp and Geneva at 5 p.m. Thursday.

BOYS

STRAUGHN 53,    SLOCOMB 34

Straughn’s varsity boys used a strong second half to push past Slocomb 54-34.

Keaun Samuel and Hank Peeples paced the Tigers with 15 points each in the victory.

Straughn will play the winner between Opp and Geneva on Thursday.
