Newly-appointed Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall on Wednesday recused himself from the investigation into Gov. Robert Bentley and appointed a former district attorney to handle the investigation.
Bentley appointed Marshall to the post last week, immediately raising ethics questions about the likelihood of the investigation, first reported in November, continuing.
Marshall said that after meeting with the Special Prosecutions Division of his new office, he appointed former Montgomery County District Attorney Ellen Brooks to serve as supernumerary district attorney leading the investigation.
Andalusia’s Rep. Mike Jones is chair of the House Judiciary Committee, which was conducting investigations as part of an impeachment process against Bentley that began last spring.
