A local woman was arrested on a grand jury indictment Monday for child abuse.

Whitney Leigh Stanley, 25, was initially arrested and charged in June 2016 with child abuse.

The November grand jury indicted Stanley, but she was only arrested this week.

According to the indictment, Stanley “did willfully abuse, cruelly beat or otherwise maltreat…a child under the age of 18 years old by burning the child.”

With the indictment, the grand jury found enough evidence for the case to go to trial. Willful abuse of a child is a class C felony. She was given a $20,000 bail and no contact with the victim, according to the indictment.
