The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs (14-12) have surged late in the season to earn a spot in Saturday’s Class 4A South Regional semi-finals in Dothan.

“We have had three really good days of practice this week,” Andalusia head coach Brad Garner said. “This is all a little new to the girls. This will be the first time in several years that we have made it to the regional tournament. We are trying to just approach it like any other game.”

The Lady Bulldogs will take on Booker T. Washington Magnet School in the regional opener.

“They are a team that is similar to us in a lot of ways,” Garner said. “They rely a lot on defensive pressure like we do. They are also a team that seems to really started playing better as the season has progressed.”

Garner said that the Lady Bulldogs have also progressed and began playing their best ball towards the end of the season.

“There was one point this year when our record was 5-11,” Garner said. “Then the girls just turned it up a notch at just the right time, and now we are sitting at 14-12. I’m so proud of these girls. These girls have fought so hard to get where they are at, and at the beginning of the season I don’t think there was anyone outside of this locker room that expected us to be where we are. They believe that they can go over there and win, and I’m just tickled to death to have the opportunity to be a part of this with them. “
