Sanford could get natural gas

The town of Sanford is working to get natural gas service to its residents.

Sanford Mayor Chris Thomasson said that he needs residents who are interested in having natural gas at their homes or businesses in Sanford to sign-up at Town Hall.

“They need to leave their name, number and address,” he said. “We are going to do that through the month of March.”

Thomasson said that Southeast Gas needs to meet a certain quota to be able to service the tiny town of just more than 240 residents.

“The more that sign-up the better chances we have of getting the service.”

Thomasson requested that poultry farmers or any other potential customer who would have more than the normal residential consumption to make note of that on the sign-up sheet.

Thomasson said this is the first time the town has tried to get the service.

“The lines are already there,” he said. “We have businesses here, too, with the airport and JM Jackson.”

The mayor said that residents on Old Salt Road, Cliff Meredith Road and Mill Creek had asked if Southeast Gas could serve them.

“If you want to have gas logs and gas appliances, come sign-up,” he said.

Thomasson said that town hall is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
