The Covington Arts Council will present the Montana Repertory Theatre production of Barefoot in the Park on Mon., March 6.

Neil Simon wrote the romantic comedy, which opened on Broadway on Oct. 23, 1963, and ran for 1,530 performances. It was Simon’s longest-running hit, and the 10th longest-running non-musical play in Broadway history.

barefoot-ad-for-ned-01Barefoot follows the lives of newlyweds Paul and Corie Bratter as they adjust to married life in a tiny Greenwich Village apartment. Paul is a buttoned-down, straight-arrow lawyer who’s wound a little too tight, while Corie is an effervescent free spirit who won’t let anything disturb her romantic bliss.

In both the original play and the film adaptation, Robert Redford was cast in the lead. The play featured Elizabeth Ashley opposite him; the film featured Jane Fonda.
